Accessibility in the world
ASIA / EUROPE / AFRICA / AMERICA / CARIBBEAN / OCEANIA
Just my travel impression. Big cities and villages are different. Please read this easygoing, not so seriously.
Australia 2008, 2013, 2016

Compared with New Zealand, Australia is not so good accessibility. They like regulations to make barriers to do something for wheelchairs. For example, I could not use all the ride in Movie World theme park because of evacuation problem. Rental car company does not allow me to put my own portable hand control. Low cost airline discriminate non-walk passengers and sometime they refuse person with disability to use by themselves. Actually, the facility and towns are quite accessible. I felt some heart barrier. |
Fiji 2016 |
Fiji airways Nadi
airport is the hub in south Pacific area. Good service at airport. They
have boarding bridge, aisle chair, special care attendant services. Some
good hotels have a wheelchair accessible room, but it was not perfect.
Road was not good for walking on wheelchair.
|
Kiribati 2016 |
Almost nothing
about wheelchair accessibility. No aisle chair at airport. Simple life
in small islands Pacific Ocean. Land is quite flat.
|
Marshall
Islands 2016 |
Like USA. The
accessibility is very good compared with their economy size. All
building have a ramp at entrance. There are some large toilets in
public. Boarding ramp and aisle chair at airport.
Many many shared taxis (sedan or wagon) run in town. It is easy to use
and costs very cheep.

Nauru 2016 |
Just visited for
transit. Nauru airline was good. Boarding lift is available at airport.
|
New Zealand 2008, 2011 |
Perfect. One of the best accessible country in the world. All the gas station has an accessible toilet which are not special but enough space. Road are very smooth. So kind for human. Many hotel and motel have accessible rooms. The bathroom are large and with a shower chair. |
Papua New
Guinea 2013 |
No accessibility.
Simple life there. No taxi except capital. I did not see any wheelchair
facility. Shared mini-bus is transportation. Only stairs to domestic
airplanes, but kind stuff helped me. There are boarding bridge at
international terminal.
|
Samoa 2019 |
Slow life. Mild
and kind people. No lower floor buses. Not good road condition and side
walks. New airport opened in 2018 is wheelchair accessible.
|
Solomon
Islands 2016 |
No accessibility
but airport has a boarding lift. Many fish at market. It seems not easy
to travel outside capital for wheelchair users.
|
Tonga 2019 |
No trash on
street. Clean country. Lovely people. New port built by Japanese
government financial support is wheelchair accessible. Airport is quite
small. .
|
Vanuatu 2019 |
Many Australian
tourists and cruise ship tourist at capital. Tourist area is well
organized and some wheelchair accessible. Airport is fine. Simple nature
life outside capital.
