10 days rental car with a couple / 2014

Rental car from Venice airport, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, ship to south Italy and Roma. This is Croatia highway rest space. Wheelchair accessible, but wheelchair special toilets were always locked. We need to get the key from workers at the cafe. It happens in accessible developing country.

Plitvice Lakes National Park. I could not get any accessible info.

We asked the hotel staff where is best place for wheelchair tourist. The 1st view deck is suitable. Normal parking area has stairs, therefore we parked the staff area. The gate has a ramp and a wheelchair large toilet. It means welcome.

Free to enter for wheelchair users. Everybody can see the water falls and lakes at the view deck 30 meters from the gate.

Long long zigzag trail down to the canyon.

Arrive at lake level. I walked on wooden trail feeling nice wind and water spray. Some steps on wooden trail. Only 100 m walk on wheelchair. I was satisfied to come down here.

Pork BBQ lunch. So yummy.

Split, Adrian sea resort city. 4 gates to old city. West gate is good for wheelchair users. South and East gates are with stairs. The are is not so large and non step. It was so fan to walk around for a while.

Dubrovnik, most famous tourist spot in Croatia. Huge fort city. The scale is more than 10 times as large as Split. I was afraid of entering on wheelchair or not. We parked a car near north east gate. It was not easy to find a parking space. Many cars but limited space.

No steps on north east gate. The main West gate "Pile" is also accessible with a ramp. All stone roads, but no so bumpy. Some steep ramp, but many tourist would help it. Walking inside the wall is like a time travel to middle age.

* Slovenia *

Bled lake. Many mountains in Slovenia. Good air.

Ljubljana castle in capital central. Ramp to the castle from car parking.  Wheelchair toilet was locked...

Accessible funicular railway from the bottom of hill. Wheelchair accessible tourist spot.

* Bosnia Herzegovina *

Only 4 hours drive from Croatia and eat lunch in Mostar.  Very good lunch there.

* Montenegro *

1 night stay at a large hotel " Institute Milocevici " rehabilitation health care center in Igalo near Herceg-Novi. All rooms are wheelchair accesible. 70 cm slide door of bathroom and non step anywhere. Many Russian patients come here for treatment.

Many people stay here for long days. Accommodation fee was cheep. Beautiful sea, nice food, calm town. warm weather. They have many public large toilets. It is like accessibility developed country. Outside are not so accessible in Montenegro.

* Albania *

We just passed Albania to go to ferry port " Durres - Bari ".  Entering Albania by rental car was easy. We must pay the insurance fee at the border. It cost 50 Euro minimum. High price. Bosnia and Montenegro were also same, but more cheep price.

Delicious grilled meat. The best BBQ in my life.

Ferry terminal. They do not accept credit card. No ATM. Only cash to pay.

The ferry has a lift. Wheelchair toilet in the ferry, but it was locked and broken. I did not know no sleeping place for 2nd class passengers. We requested the room after boarding. They said we gave a room after departure. 1 hour late for departure because many truck come. They gave us an accessible room without paying. It was the gift from vice captain. 4 beds and large bathroom. No water in bathroom. It was OK to get a bed. If I know this accessible room, I booked it. Give us the information, please.

Very calm Mediterranean Sea. No waving at night. Next morning we arrived at Bari, south Italy port.
