ski in Grand Bornard  /  2014

I love skiing. Mono-ski is not easy, but so fan. Finally I became a better skier after 4 days ski in France. Thanks my French friend Mary for helping me. Nice white snow, blue sky, and great mountains.

Disabled skiers center "Handi Ski" at Grand Bornard ski resort near Annecy and Geneve. I rent their mono-ski for 4 days and enjoyed a lot. Many thanks

Good hand-made wooden chair to help for mono-skiers transfer. simple but excellent idea ! Another skier used a plastic chair.

Nice French restaurant "Domaine des Sequoias " in Bourgoin-Jallieu near Lyon airport. They have a ramp to go inside the castle (restaurant). Also they told us to have an accessible room. Fast lunch menu costs 28 Euro. It was quite reasonable for 5 plates and lovely kind service !

conference and ski  /  2013

I was invited European accessibility show in Paris " Urbaccess " to speak about Japanese universal design and accessible tourism. France is behind in some parts of accessibility, especially Paris central. But France is developed some parts of accessibility like LRT (Light Rail Transit, new lower floor tram), recreation adaptive equipment. They are all nice French design.

The real time caption for person with hearing impairment was internet relay. No typist came to the show. They worked in their office or home. Great technology and idea. It costs low and easy.

Paris Metro was not wheelchair accessible. RER suburban railway network was partial accessible. Almost non step between platform and trains. Problem is the lifts of each station. Sometime they are out of order. It is difficult to find the location.

Unique lift of RER station. It moved on stairs. I have never seen such a lift in Metro before.

Pompidou Center. I love modern art. Some parts of stone roads changed smooth. I guess here is tourist area and many people come. That is good for wheelchairs, baby buggy, and canes.

French tactile guide block was made by rubber. Yellow tactile block for blind was born in Japan. We have many on streets, but sometime it is sleepy and too showy. I like this kind of tactile guide rubber line.

I have never visited Louvre museum since 1994. You know it is huge. Of course, wheelchair users can watch almost all exhibitions, but they must use many lifts. It is not easy where we are. Louvre is a maze.

Opera Garnier in Paris. My French friend got a wheelchair seat for me. To get a wheelchair seat, we must call them. It was not easy for foreign tourists. Also no any wheelchair route in Opera Garnier. The entrance of wheelchair users was different. It was from the restaurant located northeast side. There is a lift for theater area.

Wheelchair seat was 1st floor box 26/28 place 1-3. There are non step at the entrance. One wheelchair user use 2 seats for 1 seat price. There were no space for wheelchair users on arena area.

One of my dream is skiing in Alps mountain. Now dream come true !   Here is Plagne Aime in La Plagne. They had many kinds of adaptive ski program for disabled worked here. Many person with disability came to ski here.

Lovely lunch on deck. Gratin is famous local dish. Here is like a heaven.

On my 40th birth day, I tried bob sledge with French friends. The stuff were so kind. The speed was 130km.

2nd front with yellow helmet is me.

Another ski resort, Combloux. Here is also nice ski program for person with disability. I rent a mono ski and enjoyed skiing.

Great day. Great view. Great people !

Sunshine in lunch time. Food was outstanding in French ski resorts.

A local senior nursing home came to ski as a day service. About 12 elder person enjoyed tandem ski with professional attendant. If you have a heavy disability, you can enjoy skiing here. Wow ! dream place.

They also have summer program, mountain downhill bike, parasailing and etc.

French adaptive ski "Tandem Flex" for person with heavy disability and elderly.
Please watch the movies in French ski resort.

tour guide and competition  /  2011

World Trail Orienteering Championship 2011 was held in Chambery, France. My friends (two couples) paid my travel money and I guided them. We rent a car at Nice airport and return it at Lyon airport. Nice is really peaceful city.

From Nice, we went over Alps mountains. I watched "tour de France 2011". The most tough day was stage 18, Pinerolo ( Italy ) to Galibier pass ( France ) 200km. Three incredible pass ( 2744m, 2360m ,2645m ) in the same day. We drove the same route by car. Many cyclists challenged the route. One of the best driving route in the world. I can not say for cycling. It seems ultimate tough. Wonderful view in French Alps. Be careful for driving because of no guardrail.

Mont Blanc In Chamonix. The cable car to Aigulle du Midi is full wheelchair accessible. Non step. We ride the first one in early morning. Everybody can climb up to the observation deck ( 3842m ) by lift in the rock. Nobody was there. We were the first visitor of the day. Very quiet. Alps view was only for me.

This is Mont Blanc, 4810m, the highest mountain in Europe. I could not see the top.

Grandes jorasses. The cable car take us neat top of the Alps mountains..

Some people go to the top of Mont Blanc. 3 nights 4 days ice walk.

View to Chamonix town. 2800m down. It was easy to come here by cable car.

Here is the gate for Mont Blanc. Climber were ready for their adventure.

The weather was clear, but 2 hours later rain came. Getting up early is always better.

Now we were back to Chamonix. The cable car station is new. It is wheelchair accessible.

We had breakfast at popular bread shop near the cable car station. The toilet was wheelchair accessible. Good !

The final day of this tour, we went dinner at restaurant with star in Chambery. Rich and extraordinary time. Perfect 4 dishes. Local white wine was outstanding. May be the best white wine in my life.

tour guide  /  2008

10 days drive from Frankfurt to Wien through Alps mountains. We visited a French city Strasbourg.
Modern accessible design tram is world famous. Full accessible city. Easy to use public transportation for everybody.

Food like German style was not so good. Beer was nice !  May be too much expectation.
Strasbourg Salad, choucroute (Sauerkraut, sour cabbage), simple tarto Flambe

10 days with family  /  2007

Lourdes is famous for holy water legend. Many diseased people stay here for treatment. I was lucky to see and join a big Mass.

Toulouse is a students city. A big group did performance in front of city hall. So funny and cheerfuly.

In Paris, I watched the game, Rugby World Cup 2007. There are a lot of wheelchair seats.

alone  / 1994

My first journey to Europe.  The length is 2 month.  That was a big adventure.  Many impact from each county.
