1 month in West Africa / 2017

Disaster happened. Lost baggage at Monrovia Liberia airport.
I continued 3 weeks travel with 1 small bag and 1 brief case. Check the photo.
This is all my baggage.

Some facility for passengers with disability at Monrovia Liberia airport. I wait for a long time to get my luggage. My wheelchair came, but my bag did not appear. Lost baggage from Madrid through Casablanca by Royal Maroc airline. Fortunately my own wheelchair was not lost because I insisted on using it at Casablanca airport for 4 hours transit.

small airport...

Bought 2 T-shirts, 2 under wears and 1 sox in a market Monrovia city center.

Only 1 night in Liberia and moved to Sierra Leone by air because I was invited UNWTO conference in Spain as a panelist. I had to skip 5 days of my west Africa adventure. That is why no time in Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone capital Freetown airport is not located in the city. It is located over the sea. I went to Guinea - Sierra Leone border by a private taxi from the airport. Villages looked peaceful.

Corruption Guinea - Sierra Leone border. Immigration officer, police, military all say only " Give money". Once I paid 1-3 US$, suddenly they allowed me to pass the check points.

Too many passengers on local buses in Guinea.

I visited Royal Maroc airway Conakry office to solve my lost baggage, but they did not help it.

Dirty port in Conakry. Many rubbish on the beach.

Young boys enjoyed soccer on the beach.

Many many wheelchairs, blinds, albino on street in Conakry central. They live together and beg on street.

Lunch with a kind gay. He helped me to buy a traditional trousers. I gave him this lunch. Soup with beef skin and crab.

Many many street beggars on wheelchairs in Conakry.

Move to north from Conakry.

Nice hotel in Boke, northwest Guinea. Typical local food lunch with okura, spinach, nuts with oil and red pepper. Chicken dinner charged the big energy to me.

Boke bus garage. No bus and taxi to across a minor border of Guinea Bissau. I moved north end of Guinea by shared taxi.

So tough in Guinea. 13 person in 7 seats wagon taxi. 2,4,4 + 3 person on top.
I always paid 2 person fare to keep the side seat in Guniea.

Tea break on the way.

Local village. So dusty and bumpy.

Go to a main border of Guinea - Guinea Bissau. Not paved. Horrible dirt road. Only by charter motorbike or taxi.

Never seen such a bad road at immigration. The taxi driver went to the office to get the stamp instead of me.

Entered Guinea Bissau easily without any money. Bissau side road are paved. Nice 2 US$ beef BBQ lunch at border post during waiting time to mini bus to Gabu. Happy to get energy.

At Gabu bus garage. 4 - 5 hours drive to capital Bissau by 7 seats wagon taxi. In Guinea Bissau, no passenger on the car and 7 passengers in a car. Guinea Bissau is much better than Guinea. However one passenger put a cow on the car. We must stop many times at police check.
